Extract from the "building news September 1st 1882
"New hotel, Tobermory, Island of Mull".
This building is being erected for Mr Caldwell of Hanover Terrace, Regents
Park, the proprietor of the estate Mish-Nish in Mull. It occupies
a rather long and narrow site between the roadway and the edge of the cliffs,
overlooking the beautiful bay of Tobermory and commanding views of the
Island, the Sound of Mull, and the distant shores of Morven.
A zigzag footpath will be formed up the front of the cliffs from near
the pier, the principal and carriage entrance being at the back.
The accommodation will consist of a dining room, forty two feet by twenty
feet; drawing and ante-drawing rooms, billiard room, commercial room, parlours,
35 bedrooms, kitchen, and other necessary accommodation. Stable offices
are to be erected on the adjoining site.
For the rubble work, Blue Whinstone, quarried near the site, is used,
and all dressings will be of Red Freestone, from the Island of Arran.
The cost of the whole works is not expected to exceed £4,500. |
